Pure Architecture: Renson and Atlanta Airport reach for the Skye

Lunch & learn

“We came into contact with Corgan, the contractor behind the project via the American Institute of Architects (AIA) ‘lunch & learn’ sessions. The company was aware of Atlanta Airport’s plans and brought us together,” says a Renson spokesperson. “The people at Atlanta Airport told us that they wanted to create an outdoor lounge with a bar, where people can go between two flights to escape from the hustle and bustle and stress. Atlanta Airport also suggested the idea of organising outdoor yoga classes in the summer.

From busy airport to tranquil oasis

Because they needed to use the outdoor lounge all year round, it was important that visitors were protected from the weather conditions. In summer, the airport is bathed in hot sunshine, while in autumn and spring, it is often ravaged by inclement weather. Because the Renson Skye offers the user the highest amount of flexibility possible, this terrace cover is the showpiece of the Renson outdoor range. The roof blades of the terrace covering can be completely closed or slid open. It’s a matter of always being able to enjoy the necessary protection from the sun or rain, at any time of the year.

The necessary adjustments

Of course, we couldn’t use a smartphone for this project. That’s why we developed a program to control the covering from the central computer in the lounge. To make it even more comfortable for the lounge’s visitors, heating elements, fans, LED mood lights, and windproof Renson screens have also been integrated. These are also fully controlled from the central computer. The additions make a visit to the lounge a luxurious, comfortable, and relaxing experience. Because the outdoor lounge space is very large, it was decided to cover it completely. That’s why we installed a total of 8 Renson Skyes.

‘Reach for the Skye’

The project is now fully completed and the outdoor lounge is in use. Atlanta Airport is very satisfied with the end result because the covered outdoor area is a unique experience for the users. As a result, the project has not gone unnoticed. It has been picked up by many of Corgan and Atlanta Airport’s other partners. There are plans for the ‘sky lounge’ at the JFK International Airport in New York and similar projects will soon be launched in Nashville Airport and the Los Angeles airport (LAX). We’re reaching for the Skye.
